Only what you type and a little technical context (the version, the platform, the engine, the colorway, the window size, the diagnostics line and the browser's user agent) leave your device when you write in. No audio, no transcript.

Nothing is being written down

The words only appear while the record key is lit. On iPhone and iPad, D-REC needs two permissions: Settings › D-REC › Microphone and Speech Recognition, both on. On the web, the browser asks once and remembers; if you said no, the site's padlock in the address bar is where you undo it.

My recording stopped at 10 minutes

Free recordings stop at 10 minutes, with or without an account. A free account also keeps 3 recordings on the device it was made on, with summaries of your first 3. D-REC Pro removes the limits.

It went quiet when I locked the phone

Recording continues with the screen locked and with D-REC in the background. If it does not, check that Background App Refresh is on for D-REC and that Low Power Mode is off.

I cannot find an old recording

Recordings live on the device that made them, and nowhere else. They are not in an account and they are not on a server, so they do not follow you to another phone or computer, and clearing the browser's site data for D-REC deletes them. Export anything you want to keep: with Pro, any recording exports as text, CSV or Markdown with its audio, and on every plan COPY puts the text on your clipboard.

Plans and billing

D-REC Pro is $3.99 a month or $24.99 a year, each with a 7-day free trial for a first subscription, or $39.99 once for Pro Forever. Prices are in US dollars or the local equivalent shown at purchase.

Cancel a subscription. Bought on iPhone or iPad: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Bought on the web: the account panel, under MANAGE. Bought through Google Play: in the Google Play app, your profile picture › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions, or play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions; uninstalling the app does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Cancelling stops the next charge and Pro runs to the end of the period already paid for. Cancel before the 7-day trial ends and nothing is charged.

Switch between monthly and yearly. Bought on the web: the account panel, under MANAGE. Monthly to yearly takes effect at once, and the unused part of the month is credited against the yearly charge. Yearly to monthly takes effect when the paid year ends.

Refunds. Pro Forever bought on the web carries a full refund within 14 days, and so does each charge of a yearly subscription bought on the web, within 14 days of that charge: tap REQUEST A FULL REFUND in your account panel. A monthly subscription is not refunded; cancelling stops the next charge. Anything bought through Apple is refunded by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. A refund for anything bought through Google Play is requested through Google Play: on play.google.com, your profile picture › Payments & subscriptions › Budget & order history, then Report a problem on the order (Google Play's refund help).

Pro is not on my other device. Pro follows the account, not the device. Sign in with the same email, or on iPhone tap Restore a purchase in the plans card.

iPhone

D-REC for iPhone is on the App Store: D-REC: Offline AI Recorder. It records and transcribes on the phone with Apple's on-device speech, and Pro bought there is the same Pro everywhere you sign in.

Android

D-REC for Android is on Google Play: D-REC on Google Play. It records and transcribes on the phone with the same engine as the website, which downloads once, on Wi-Fi or with the first recording, and then works offline. Pro bought through Google Play and Pro bought on the web are the same Pro everywhere you sign in. The website works in Chrome on an Android phone too.

Mac and Windows

The desktop app is free the same way the website is: recordings up to 10 minutes and copying the text, with no account. D-REC Pro, monthly, yearly or Forever, unlocks the rest there too. Pro follows your account, so it is on wherever you sign in, every Mac and Windows computer included. With Pro Forever, signing in also installs a licence on the computer that does not expire, so Pro runs there with no network at all; a monthly or yearly plan checks in from time to time. That licence is held by one computer at a time, and you can move it: sign in on the new machine and Settings offers to move the licence there.

Where your recordings are

On your device. Audio, transcripts, chapter titles and summaries are produced on the device and stay there. Nothing you record is uploaded, and there is no copy anywhere for us to hand over, lose, or read.

What does leave the device: an account holds your email address and which plan you are on, a support note holds what you typed, and D-REC keeps two usage counts: once a day it says a copy was opened, and the first time a copy records, exports, sees the plans, signs in, opens music mode, the checkout or a trial, uses the production tools or answers the rating ask, it says which. Each carries a random install ID, never content or an account, and one switch in Settings turns both off. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Delete your account

Account panel, DELETE ACCOUNT. It removes the email address and the plan record. Your recordings were never on D-REC's servers, so they are unaffected; delete those in the app itself.

If you have uninstalled D-REC or cannot open it, email build@knightaiav.com from your account's email address with the subject “Delete my D-REC account”. We will verify the request and answer within thirty days. You can also ask us to delete a support report without deleting your account. Deletion steps and retained records.
