D-REC Terms of Use

The service

D-REC is a recorder that transcribes on your device, available as a web app, an iPhone app, and desktop apps for Mac and Windows. It records audio, lets you rewind through it, and writes a timed transcript, all on the device itself. You are responsible for having the right to record the people and rooms you record, including any consent your jurisdiction or your production requires.

Free use, accounts and Pro

Without an account, D-REC records takes of up to ten minutes, offers five colorways, and always lets you copy your words. A free account keeps up to three sessions on the device it was made on and reads the first three takes in full. D-REC Pro removes those limits on the web and on the iPhone alike.

D-REC Pro is sold two ways, in US dollars or the local equivalent shown at purchase: a subscription of $3.99 per month, or a one-time purchase of $39.99 (Pro Forever). Prices may change for new purchases; a change to a running subscription is announced by email at least 30 days before it takes effect.

The seven-day trial

The monthly subscription begins with seven days free. The trial starts at checkout, with a payment method on file, and it can be used once per account. When the seven days end the subscription starts and the payment method is charged the price shown, unless you cancel before the trial ends, in which case nothing is charged. Three days before the first charge we send a reminder by email with the date, the amount, and how to cancel.

Renewal and cancellation

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. Cancelling stops the next charge; the period already paid for runs to its end and Pro stays on until then. On the web, cancel from your account panel under MANAGE, which opens the billing portal; on the iPhone, cancel under Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through Apple; cancel it there first.

Using D-REC without a connection

Recording, transcribing, rewinding and exporting all happen on your device and never need a connection. That does not change with your plan.

What a connection is for is your plan. Pro Forever installs a licence on that computer which does not expire, so a machine that has been signed in once runs Pro from then on with no network at all; D-REC goes online only to look for updates. A monthly subscription is different: it has to reach the service from time to time to confirm it is still running, so it is not a way to own an offline copy. The app says so, once, the first time it finds itself offline.

On the iPhone and iPad the same holds: once the app is installed and signed in, a purchase that never expires keeps working without a connection.

Refunds

Pro Forever bought on the web, and any annual subscription still running from when one was sold, carry a full refund within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked: tap REQUEST A FULL REFUND in your account panel and the payment returns to your card within five to ten business days. Monthly subscriptions are cancel-any-time and the month already paid is not refunded. Purchases made through Apple are refunded by Apple under Apple's terms at reportaproblem.apple.com. Where the law of your country gives you more than this, that applies.

Your content

Everything you record belongs to you and stays on your device. We do not receive it, store it or claim any right to it.

Accounts

You may delete your account at any time from the account panel. Deleting the account ends any active plan without refund of the current period, except where the law of your country requires otherwise.

Warranty and liability

D-REC is provided as is. Speech recognition makes mistakes; verify anything that matters. To the extent permitted by law, Knight AI+AV LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and its total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes

We may update these terms; the effective date above changes when we do. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
