Transcription that works with no internet

D-REC transcribes on your own device, so it keeps working on a plane, in a basement, or with the wifi off. The engine downloads once, then never needs the network again.

Most transcription services are a microphone pointed at somebody else's computer. Your audio is uploaded, processed on a server, and sent back as text. That is why they stop working the moment the connection does, and it is why an aeroplane, a basement, a location shoot or a hotel with bad wifi turns them into an ordinary voice recorder.

D-REC does the recognition on the machine in front of you. The first time you record, it fetches a speech engine of about 75 MB. After that the network is not part of the job at all. You can put the device in aeroplane mode and the words still appear as you speak them.

This is not a degraded offline mode with a smaller vocabulary. It is the same engine D-REC always uses, because there is no other one. There is no server-side version to fall back to and nothing that quietly gets better when you reconnect.

What still wants a connection is your plan, and only sometimes. A monthly subscription checks in from time to time to confirm it is still running. Pro Forever, the one-time purchase, installs a licence on that computer that does not expire, so a machine signed in once runs Pro from then on with no network at all.
