Transcribe an interview, with the time on every line

Record the interview and read it back as it happens. Every line carries its time, so finding the quote later means jumping to it rather than scrubbing.

The expensive part of an interview is not the hour in the room. It is the three hours afterwards spent hunting for the twenty seconds that mattered, with a scrub bar and a vague memory of roughly when it was said.

D-REC writes the words down as they are spoken, and stamps each line with the time it was said. Afterwards the transcript is the navigation: find the line, press it, and the audio is at that moment. Search works across the take, so a half-remembered phrase is enough to find the quote.

It also breaks a long take into chapters and writes a short read of each one, so a ninety minute conversation has a shape you can scan instead of a wall of undated lines.

Nothing leaves the device, which is the part that matters when a source agreed to talk to you specifically. Verify any quote against the audio before you print it; recognition makes mistakes, and the recording is the record.
